Scan-Speak, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-end loudspeaker units, has established a new anechoic chamber as part of the company’s relocation to a new production facility in Denmark.
Designed and delivered by IAC Acoustics, the new chamber was developed to closely replicate the acoustic performance of the previous installation, ensuring continuity in precision acoustic testing while supporting future development and production capabilities.
Founded in Denmark, Scan-Speak is internationally recognised for its premium loudspeaker transducers used by some of the world’s most respected loudspeaker brands across home audio, professional audio, automotive, and aerospace applications. All products are developed, tested, and hand-assembled in Denmark.

In 2025, Scan-Speak decided to relocate to a new production and R&D facility to support increasing demands for optimised manufacturing, improved workflows, and more efficient logistics. An essential part of the new facility was the establishment of a dedicated anechoic chamber for acoustic testing of loudspeaker units, including directivity measurements.
For Scan-Speak, maintaining consistency between the previous and new test environments was a key requirement. The new chamber therefore had to reproduce the acoustic behaviour and measurement conditions of the former installation as closely as possible. This ensures continuity in development processes and preserves the ability to compare new measurements with historical test data accumulated over many years.
To support the project, IAC Acoustics was engaged early in the planning phase to assist with the design, specification, and installation of the Anechoic chamber solution.

The chamber was engineered for acoustic free-field testing in accordance with ISO 3745 and ISO 26101, international recognised standards defining the qualification requirements for anechoic and hemi-anechoic environments used for precision acoustic measurements.
The installation is constructed as a double-shell box-in-box structure using IAC Moduline Noise-Lock acoustic panels with a rated sound reduction index of Rw 59 dB. The complete double-shell construction is expected to provide sound insulation of approximately Rw 70–75 dB. The isolated inner chamber minimises the intrusion of external noise while providing stable and reproducible acoustic conditions for the characterisation of loudspeaker drivers.
The interior features acoustic absorbing wedges across the elevated wire floor, ceiling, and three walls. The fourth wall remains acoustically reflective, functioning as a large infinite baffle surface for loudspeaker measurements. This configuration enables highly controlled testing conditions for evaluating loudspeaker performance, including directivity behaviour.
An important part of the installation is the access system consisting of special sound-insulated Noise-Lock acoustic doors designed to prevent external noise intrusion and ensuring highly accurate measurement conditions for loudspeaker testing.

To minimise structure-borne vibration transfer from the surrounding building, the inner chamber was installed on a vibration isolation system based on distributed PUR anti-vibration pads, VIKAFOAM.
The load distribution and support geometry were engineered to achieve an approximate natural frequency of 9–10 Hz, reducing the influence of external vibrations on sensitive acoustic measurements.
Completed and commissioned in December 2025, the new anechoic chamber now forms an integral part of Scan-Speak’s acoustic development and testing capabilities at the company’s new location.
By closely replicating the acoustic performance of the previous installation, the chamber enables Scan-Speak to maintain continuity across product development and measurement data while supporting future innovation in high-end loudspeaker technology.
